Visible Mending

We're back with Visible Mending! This hands-on workshop invites you to bring new life to beloved knitwear as well as regular, non-stretch garments in need of a little love.
Learn Sashiko, the Japanese art of visible mending — a form of decorative reinforcement stitching (literally "little stabs") traditionally used to reinforce points of wear or repair tears with patches. Today this running stitch technique is often used for purely decorative purposes in quilting and embroidery, with its distinctive look coming from white cotton thread on indigo blue cloth, though decorative pieces sometimes use red or other colored thread.
Visible mending embraces the beauty in imperfection — each stitch becomes a story, a celebration of where your clothes have been and the life you've lived in them. Instead of hiding wear and tear, we highlight it with bold, creative stitching and eye-catching patches. Think vibrant thread, playful patterns, and one-of-a-kind repairs that transform flaws into features.
Led by the incredibly skilled Sabrina of Bend Alterations — who brings over 45 years of professional sewing experience — this class is a warm, welcoming space to learn, create, and connect.
All materials are provided, but feel free to bring your torn or frayed knits, or other non-stretch garments in need of some love. No experience necessary — just bring your curiosity!
